Five commonly used wellhead tools-Manual tongs

1. Purpose

The manual clamps have main outer clamps and clamps.When working, the drilling and inner casing operation and the matching line of the drilling tool nee to tighte them during operation..

2. Type

According to the size of the drilling tool, it is divided into: B-type lifting tongs and casing lifting tongs;

According to the operation mode: manual tongs and power  tongs.

At present, B-type tongs and power tongs are widely used in domestic fields. The size of the B-type hanging pliers is φ88.9～φ298.4mm, and pipes of different sizes can be loaded and unloaded by changing the pliers.

3. Type of manual tong

The tong is the main tool for connecting the drill string. At present, the manual tongs used in our wellhead mainly include DB tongs, SDD tongs, B-type tongs and C-type tongs.

DB manual tong: Main working size 3-½” to 8-¼”, enlarged head up to 17”

Torque Range: 3-½” to 8-¼”: 65000ft-lb, 8” to 17”: 40000ft-lb

SDD  manual tong: Main working size 4″ to 8-½”, enlarged head up to 17″

Type B  manual tong : Primarily used for making and breaking bushings, sizes range from 3-½” to 13-3/8”, with extended jaws up to 25-½”

C-type manual tongs: This is a portable tong, sizes range from 2- 3/8″ to 10-¾”, maximum torque: 35000ft-lb

4. Maintenance and use

• 1) Keep the boom flexible and easy to level;
• 2) The valve is flexible, safe and reliable, and has sufficient elasticity;
• 3) After assembly of each clamp head, the hinges are flexible and the safety pins are complete;
• 4) Always refuel and maintain the moving parts;
• 5) The hanging rope of the tongs should be as high as possible;

5. Matters needing attention

(1) selecte An appropriate 5# plier head to ensure that the buckle size is consistent with the size of the drilling tool.

(2) The tongs should be placed on the drill pipe joint, the upper and lower tongs are respectively 30~50mm away from the joint sealing surface, and the angle between the inner and outer tongs is between 45°~90°. When tightening, the outer clamp is on the top and the inner clamp is on the bottom; when shattering, the outer clamp is on the bottom and the inner clamp is on the top.

(3) When replacing the jaws, do not align the wellhead, and prevent the fingers from being injured or the jaws collapsing and hurting people.

⑷ In order to prevent the fingers safe,do not put your fingers between the 3# long pliers and the 4# short pliers ,When hitting the pliers.

Spinning Wrenches

1.Pneumatic Spinning Wrenches

Main parameters of SSW-40 pneumatic spinning wrenches:

Size range: 3-½” to 9 ½” (89-241 mm)

Rotation speed (5” drill pipe): 120 RPM

Torque (5”Pipe): 1100 ftlbs (1490 Nm)

Air Pressure: 90-120 psi (6,2-8,6 Bar)

Precautions for the use of pneumatic spinning wrenches

• 1) The cylinder, air valve, and various parts of the air circuit are safe and reliable, with flexible movements and no air leakage.
• 2) The wear of the drive and pressure roller diameter is not more than 3.175 mm
• 3) The boom is flexible and easy to adjust
• 4) Lubricated parts need frequent oil maintenance
• 5) Keep a certain amount of gear oil in the gear box
• 6) Replace drive gear teeth if damaged

2. Hydraulic tongs

Q10Y-M hydraulic tongs are mainly composed of Q10Y-M hydraulic pliers mainly include stroke gearbox, reduction device, plier head, pneumatic control system and hydraulic system.

Precautions for use

• (1) The size of the jaw plate of the jaw should be consistent with the size of the drill pipe joint.
• (2) When moving the tongs to the wellhead, do not close the air valve to the end at one time to prevent the tongs from rapidly moving to the inlet and causing impact.
• (3) Do not lift up the drilling tool till the male buckle has not been completely unscrewed from the female buckle and the tongs have not released the drilling tool.
