Compatibility check: Shakers in the same family may use different panels because of deck generation, manufacturing year or regional configuration. Confirm the original part number, finished thickness, gasket profile, feed/discharge orientation and locking details.

PWP and PMD Shaker Screen Options

PWP Flat Shaker Screen

PWP panels use a flat, pretensioned screening surface bonded to a model-specific supporting frame. The level profile supports predictable solids conveyance, straightforward installation and cleaning, and stable deck contact.

  • Flat pretensioned screen surface
  • Low, model-matched panel profile
  • Simple inspection and localized repair
  • Available for all 11 listed screen families

PMD Corrugated / High-Area Screen

PMD panels use a three-dimensional screening profile to increase effective surface area within the panel footprint. When approved for the shaker deck, this can increase fluid-handling capacity and support finer screening.

  • Increased effective screening area
  • Additional fluid pool capacity
  • Available for the listed Derrick and VSM 300 families
  • Requires exact deck-clearance verification

API RP 13C Shaker Screen Designation

API RP 13C provides standardized procedures for evaluating drilling-fluid processing equipment and reporting shaker screen performance. The principal reported values are API designation, D100 separation, conductance and non-blanked area.

API Designation and D100

An API designation is assigned from measured separation performance. D100 is the measured particle size used to assign that designation under the prescribed test procedure. A smaller D100 corresponds to finer separation.

Conductance and Non-Blanked Area

Conductance describes how readily liquid flows through a unit area under defined test conditions. Non-blanked area is the usable screen area, excluding frame ribs, bonds, seals and other blocked zones.

API Designation Is Not Mesh Count

Traditional mesh count mainly counts openings per linear inch. It does not fully describe multilayer cloth, wire diameter, D100 or conductance. Specify “API designation,” not “mesh size,” on the purchase order.

Steel-Frame vs Composite-Frame Shaker Screens

Selection Factor Steel Frame Composite Frame
Construction Welded or bonded carbon steel Moulded polymer-based frame with reinforcement
Rigidity High structural rigidity High with correct reinforced design
Handling Typically heavier Typically lighter
Corrosion resistance Coating dependent High resistance to frame rust
Typical selection Conventional, heavy-duty and cost-controlled replacement Lower-weight and corrosion-resistant replacement

Materials and Multilayer Screen Construction

Two-Layer Wire Cloth

A fine screening cloth is supported by a coarser backing cloth. This provides high open area, good liquid throughput and a practical balance between separation and cost.

Three-Layer Wire Cloth

A fine top layer, intermediate distribution layer and coarse support layer improve load distribution, support fine wire and resist local deformation under high G-force.

SS304, SS316 and SS316L

SS304 is the standard choice for general drilling service. SS316 and SS316L are available where increased resistance to chloride, seawater, high-salinity brine or corrosive fluids is required.

Each panel is factory pretensioned before the wire cloth is bonded to the frame. Correct tension supports energy transfer, solids conveyance and fatigue resistance. Multi-cell construction can isolate local damage and allow a compatible repair plug to close an affected cell.

How to Select and Order the Correct Shaker Screen

  1. Identify the shaker. Provide manufacturer, exact model, serial number where available and deck position.
  2. Confirm the panel. Send the original part number, overall dimensions, finished height and clear photos of both sides.
  3. Confirm installation geometry. Identify wedge direction, hooks, latches, gasket location, feed end and discharge end.
  4. Select PWP or PMD. The profile must match the deck, locking system and available clearance.
  5. State the API designation. Also provide conductance or non-blanked-area requirements when critical.
  6. Describe operating conditions. Include WBM, OBM or SBM, mud weight, temperature, chloride level, flow rate and solids loading.
  7. Confirm commercial requirements. State quantity, destination, required documents, packaging and product marking.

Fast quotation checklist: shaker model + screen part number + dimensions + PWP/PMD + API designation + frame preference + quantity + destination.

Quality Control and Supply Documentation

  • Wire-cloth and frame-material verification
  • Overall length, width and finished-height inspection
  • Frame flatness, screen tension and bonding inspection
  • Seal, gasket and locking-feature position verification
  • Visual inspection, product marking and packaging checks
  • API RP 13C-related performance documents according to the agreed scope

Available order documents may include dimensional inspection records, material information, production batch traceability and D100, conductance or non-blanked-area reporting. Confirm the required documentation package with the inquiry.

Shaker Screens for WBM, OBM and SBM

Water-Based Mud (WBM)

Selection balances fine-solids removal with flow capacity and resistance to clay blinding. Formation reactivity, polymer content, viscosity and solids loading should be provided.

Oil-Based Mud (OBM)

Effective screening helps recover valuable drilling fluid, reduce mud loss and discharge drier cuttings. Fluid chemistry and maximum temperature influence cloth and bonding selection.

Synthetic-Based Mud (SBM)

Screen construction is selected for chemical compatibility, stable bonding and reliable fluid recovery. SS316 or SS316L cloth is available where greater corrosion resistance is needed.

Field capacity and screen life also depend on shaker G-force, basket angle, viscosity, mud density, cuttings shape, solids concentration, deck loading, blinding and operating practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What information is needed for a quotation?

Send the shaker manufacturer and model, part number, dimensions, PWP or PMD profile, API designation, frame preference, quantity, destination and photos.

Do you supply Derrick replacement screens?

Yes. The listed range covers FLC2000, FLC500, 626 and Hyperpool shakers in PWP and PMD configurations.

Which Brandt VSM 300 screens are available?

Separate screens are available for scalping, primary and secondary deck positions. Their dimensions differ, so the deck position must be confirmed.

What is the highest API designation available?

The listed Hyperpool-compatible range extends to API 400. The other ten listed screen families extend to API 360.

Is API 140 the same as 140 mesh?

No. API designation is assigned from measured D100 separation. Traditional mesh count does not fully characterize a multilayer screen.

Should I choose PWP or PMD?

Use the profile specified for the shaker deck. PWP is flat; PMD is corrugated/high-area. Confirm deck clearance before changing profiles.

Are steel and composite frames available?

Both can be supplied where compatible with the selected model. Steel provides rigidity; composite construction can reduce weight and frame corrosion.

Can the screens be used with OBM or SBM?

Yes. Provide fluid chemistry, chloride concentration and temperature so the materials and bonding system can be selected correctly.

Can you provide SS316 or SS316L cloth?

Yes. They are available for projects requiring increased resistance to chloride-containing or corrosive service.

Can a damaged screen cell be repaired?

Small localized damage may be isolated with the correct repair plug. Replace screens with extensive tears, delamination, deformed frames or failed seals.
