Description

Goldenman API 6A Frac Heads, also known as Goat Heads, combine multiple high-pressure fracturing lines into one vertical flow path above the Frac Tree.

The forged multi-port body distributes fracturing fluid from four or six side inlets into the main wellbore connection. This arrangement allows multiple pumping units to operate through one Frac Tree while reducing the number of separate crosses, tees and adapters in the pressure-control stack.

The complete range includes:

  • Six-Way Frac Heads with four side outlets
  • Eight-Way Frac Heads with six side outlets
  • Main bore sizes from 4-1/16 to 7-1/16 in
  • Working pressures of 10,000 and 15,000 psi

Frac Head Operating Principle

High-pressure fracturing fluid enters through four or six side connections.

The angled passages merge the individual branch flows into the central vertical bore.

The combined fluid then flows downward through:

  1. The Frac Head
  2. The Frac Tree
  3. The master valve
  4. The Tubing Head or Frac Adapter
  5. The completion string
  6. The perforated formation interval

The top connection provides vertical access for:

  • Wireline pressure-control equipment
  • Coiled-tubing equipment
  • Lubricators
  • Ball-drop equipment
  • Frac plugs
  • Tool deployment systems
  • Pressure-testing equipment

Frac Head vs Goat Head

Frac Head and Goat Head are commonly used for the same multi-port pressure body.

The term Frac Head describes its function in the hydraulic-fracturing system.

The term Goat Head describes the visual appearance created by multiple angled side branches extending from the central body.

Both terms refer to the same product family.

Frac Head vs Frac Tree

Component Main Function
Frac Head / Goat Head Combines multiple high-pressure pumping lines
Frac Tree Provides the main vertical pressure-control valve stack
Frac Valve Isolates an individual flow path
Zipper Manifold Directs pumping flow between multiple wells
Missile Manifold Receives and distributes flow from pumping units
Frac Adapter Connects different wellhead or tree interfaces

The Frac Head is installed at the upper section of the Frac Tree or pressure-control stack.
